Yoga & Ayurveda – Level 1
January 14, 2018 @ 1:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Ayurveda means “science of life”- it is a sister science of Yoga and is said to be around 40,000 years old, with written text about 6,000 years old. This is the best preventative medicine on the planet, as it uses a holistic approach to teach how to live a balanced life, as imbalances are what cause disease.
We recommend diet, herbs, oils, lifestyle changes and other treatments according to a person’s metabolic body type or “dosha”-this is not a one size fits all type of system! Minor changes can remove stress and brings balance to the mind and body.
Yoga and Ayurveda are two branches of the same Tantric/Vedic tradition. Combining the two creates a complete approach for optimal health, longevity and conscious awareness. While Ayurveda teaches self-care using lifestyle changes and herbal remedies, Yoga incorporates postures, pranayama and meditation- which can all be adjusted according to one’s dosha.
This is four hours of an eight hour workshop – appropriate for both yoga teachers and practitioners. Knowledge of Ayurveda can help you in enhancing your own practice, as well as fine turning your student’s practice according to their body type. You will learn:
- Your ayurvedic body type (dosha) and how to recognize imbalances
- The three Gunas- for mental health and well-being
- Asana, Pranayama and Meditation practice for each of the three major doshas
- Herbs and Diet suggestions for each of the three doshas
- The therapeutic use of essential oils for your body type and for common ailments
- Essential Oil blending instructions and simple recipes
- Ayurvedic self-massage and basic reflexology techniques that can be used on yourself and your Yoga students
Handouts will be provided and this series qualifies for 8 Hours CE for Yoga Alliance Teachers.
